What is the truth about hosting companies offering unlimited resources or 100% uptime guarantees?

It's hype if not a blatant lie. There is no such thing as unlimited anything. This is a marketing tactic that will make the customer feel like they have unlimited expansion capability for no extra charge.

A hosting company that offers unlimited resources is making a pretty safe bet you will never be able to use a fraction of the resources allotted. I will guarantee you that if you buy such an account and begin to use more resources than are available to you on a server your account will be shutdown or the hosting company will go out of business.

Yes, here at DataWebPRO we use the term "unlimited" in our account descriptions. In our case unlimited means unlimited up to the amount of bandwidth and/or disk space allocated to your account.

There are always limitations to server resources. Make sure you read the fine print before falling for misleading advertising concerning "unlimited" plans .

What is the difference between addon domains and top-level domains?

Addon domains are created from within the Cpanel under 1 top-level domain hosting account. Addons are subdomains but setup in such a way as to simulate a top level domain. Addon accounts have their own cgi bin but share Cpanel services. This is a cost effective method to have multiple domain name hosting accounts. However, there is some speculation about the way search engines may rank sites created this way. Top-Level domains are full web hosting accounts that do not share services and can be located on unique IP addresses. Several packages are available that allow the creation of top-level domain hosting accounts.

How long does it take to set up an account?

Most orders are initiated instantly but you may not be able to access your account for up to 24 hours. Domain names may not actually resolve to the server for 72 hours or more. This is out of our control and standard for all web hosting companies.

How much do you charge for domain registration?

Can I host international domains?

Yes, we currently have clients that use .ca, .il, .tc, .nu, .ve, and many other international domain names.

Do you offer NT or UNIX plans?

We offer UNIX web hosting accounts (Red Hat Linux). We do not handle Windows on any machines due to its overall instability and cost for licensing.

How do I access my Cpanel control panel?

You can login to your Cpanel control panel at http://yoursite.com/cpanel where "yoursite" is your own domain name. You will need your username and password that was e-mailed to you when you set up your account. Take a tour of cpanel control > Username: tour Password: tour

What are the nameservers for the server I will be hosted on?

Your nameserver information will vary depending on the server your account is placed on. DataWebPRO has many servers each with unique host names and nameservers.
When you sign up for hosting you will receive a series of confirmation e-mails that will contain your new DNS settings. Simply take those settings and apply them to your domain name at your registrar service.

How do I FTP into my account?

First you must obtain an FTP program such as Cute FTP or WS_FTP.   Once you have an FTP program, type in "yourdomain.com" as the host address. Supply your username and password in the appropriate fields.  Once logged in, you have complete access to your account.

Is there a manual I can reference to use Cpanel?

Where are my statistics?

Click the report button after logging into Cpanel and hit the Webalizer option. This will open a new window to Webalizer with all your statistics for that domain.

What is the full path to my cgi-bin?

/home/username/public_html/cgi-bin

Which folder do I load my web pages to?

You should place all of your web documents in the public_html directory.

I keep getting errors when trying to publish with Frontpage?

The most common problem is not using the full url when uploading your site. Make sure you use the entire http://www.domain.com in the address you are attempting to publish to.

Can I have CGI outside of the bin?

Yes, CGI will function in the public_html folder.

What version of Perl comes installed on your servers?

Perl 5.8.0.

What version of PHP comes installed on your servers?

PHP 4.3.8.

What version of MySQL comes installed on your servers?

MySQL 4.0.20-standard

What is the correct path to Perl?

What is the correct path to sendmail?

I've uploaded my site and still see "placeholder for ..."?

You are still seeing the default index.html page set up when you ordered your hosting plan through us. Make sure to delete that old index.html page, then your site should resolve correctly.

How long does it take for my DNS changes to update world wide?

Normally you can expect to see your web site DNS to change within 24 hours once you have made the modifications at your registrar. However, we have seen it take up to 7 days in some cases where registrars and ISPs are a little slower.

Why isn't my SSI working?

In order for SSI to be executed, you must rename all of your web pages to .shtml rather than .htm or .html. This solves the majority of SSI errors.
